"Constitution" - Lyrics and Music

About the song

Don't get me wrong - I'm not anti-america. I just disagree with some of the stuff that's been going on recently. At it's heart, the american constitution embodies a fair number of good things and likewise many great American leaders like Martin Luther King, dedicated their lives towards equality, right to fair trial and democracy. Unfortunately in recent times some of these things have fallen badly apart... Prisoners held without trial in Guantanamo Bay, police beating up innocent people on the street due to the colour of their skin, and American leaders jumping into war without good reason. Obama may well clear up some of the mess but this song will remember the legacy unfairness and chaos of the Bush regime.

Lyrics

Living a dream to be free from hypocracy,
And free to leave the shores of this bay
I can't believe a man can be deprived the light of day
Without a trial in this day and age

But this is the constitution, the words that tie hands and feet
The constitution, that lies lives and breathes
The constitution, that cheats the man on the street
The constitution, that kicks and beats

Living a dream to be free from the guns and violence,
That rip through the heart of our streets
I can't believe a man needs to kill his fellow men
To 'protect and serve' our greed

(chorus)

It's not what Uncle Sam had in his master plan
It's not what Abraham Lincoln was thinkin'
It's not what Luther King truly believed in
But recent presidents dont give 2 cents.

(chorus)
