"If I Could Change The World" - Lyrics and Music

About the song

I'm almost embarressed to say that this song started off life as a standard political rant. But after singing the first line for a few hours or so, I started thinking, hang-on... what would I really do 'if I could change the world'? Didn't take too much thinking... my father died when I was 12 years old, and it's been one of those things where i've just wanted to turn back time. So I re-wrote the lyrics to be about that subject and for the first few days played the song with a lump in the throat. For every one of us who's lost someone close to us, it puts the rest of the world into perspective, and this song sums it up for me.

Lyrics

If I could change the world
I would choose that you never had died
The day the earths steady rotation
Stopped in the blink of an eye
The day that floods of tears
Washed away my sight
Yes, that's all that I'd wish for,
If I could change the world

If I could change the world
I would choose for you to be back by my side
To dirnk a beer in the sun
To catch up on our lost lives
To share your hopes and dreams
To sing the songs I write
Yes, that's all that I'd wish for,
If I could change the world

Yes, so if I could change the world
I would choose that you had not passed on by
The day the lark was muted
The day that blackened skies
Came over the horizon
And blocked out the light
Yes, that's all that I'd wish for,
If I could change the world

Yes, that's what I'd wish for,
If I could change the world
